06.07 Blind Light

Emerging from Gormley's Blind Light installation, I found myself with wet feet and in a slight panic. Disoriented and adrift in the cloud-filled glass box, you literally become the subject of the work itself. Similarly, Event Horizon sees the tables turned as the viewer becomes the focus. Twenty-seven iron casts of the artists body can be seen in all directions on rooftops and walkways from any of the gallery's three terraces. With each figure facing inward, the viewer finds him/herself 'at the centre of a concentrated field of witnesses'. See Blind Light at the Southbank Centre 17 May – 19 August 2007.
